School Director of Detroit Service-Learning Academy
De’Angelo H. Alexander is the School Director of Detroit Service-Learning Academy. Before his current role, he was the Principal of David L. Mackenzie Elementary/Middle School, a DPS CD school serving Pre-K thru Eight grades. During Mr. Alexander’s term, he served over 1,100 students, which made his school the largest Pre-K/MS in the state of Michigan. Considered a turnaround administrator, Mr. Alexander took on the challenge to help turn a persistently failing school into a high performing school.
As an Education Program Officer, he led the foundations' efforts on one of their signature initiatives, "Good Schools: Making the Grade."
Mr. Alexander has also held consulting roles for Pearson, the largest education service provider in the world. He proved to be an experienced and effective educator in this role, knowledgeable of standards-based reform and school operations. He provided professional development skills and technical assistance to all school personnel. Preceding his work for Pearson, Mr. Alexander was introduced to the philanthropy world at The Skillman Foundation located in Detroit, MI. As an Education Program Officer, he led the foundations’ efforts on one of their signature initiatives, “Good Schools: Making the Grade.” The purpose of this initiative was to award schools that educated high performing students. In 2008, the initiative awarded over $2,500,000 to 129 schools.
Former to this position, Mr. Alexander was a Senior Regional Director for an education service provider where he managed several schools and their budgets simultaneously. Earlier, De’Angelo was the founding leader of Stepping Stone Academy, located in Buffalo, NY, where he set high standards for student achievement while providing leadership, direction, and support to implementing the school’s instructional program.

De’Angelo has proven accomplishments in business development. Being a co-founder of Paul Roberson Academy, where he served as a lead teacher and managed day-to-day staff activities and operations, he provided full-time instruction in math and reading courses for students, prepared daily lesson plans, and charted instructor development and goals regularly.
